Good

The fans of Mahesh Babu waited eagerly for Dookudu. The film was hyped up very much and fans frenzy reached a crescendo. Let us see if the director has managed to reach the expectations of the audience.

Story:

Sankaranarayana (Prakash Raj) is a politician. He is a man of the masses – always helping the poor and the downtrodden. His love for people makes him a popular leader in his constituency. Naturally the criminals and wicked people do not like his honest ways.

Kota is one such criminal who does illegal business and this is not liked by Shankaranarayana. He gives him a warning. Kota does not like this one bit. So he gets in touch with an international gangster Nayak (Sonu Sood). Nayak and his associates kill Shankaranaraya and make it look like an accident.

Ajay (Mahesh Babu) is a young boy when his father is attacked. The plot is revealed when we learn that Shankarnarayana has not died but is in a coma. He regains conscience after 14 years. Ajay is now a young man and an IPS officer. The doctors tell Ajay that he must keep his father always happy as the injury to his head is very serious and if he is upset or shocked then he may die.

So Ajay enacts a drama. He acts like an MLA who is following in his father’s footsteps. Ajay’s goal is to eliminate all those who conspired to kill his father and thereby take revenge. In the process h falls in love with Prasanthi (Samantha). She is the daughter of Ajay’s boss in the police department. The rest of the story is a about how Ajay manages to eliminate the criminals one by one and make his father happy, proud and contented

Performance:

For a change Mahesh Babu plays a rather subdued role. He is a tough cop but tackles the criminals in a soft way. He tries his hand at comedy and pulls it off quite convincingly. However the fights are not in tune with the requirements and expectations of his fans.

After Mahesh it is Brahmanandam and not Samantha who gets a meaty role and hogs the limelight and screen presence. Mahesh make Brahmy a bakara thereby raising some laughs. Samantha is not as hot as her image was propr to Dookudu. She has very little role in the film and she is just okay.

Prakash Raj as a sincere politician and adoring father impresses. Kota is okay but age is catching up with him. Sonu Sood is not used well by the director. Suman is okay as the top cop. MS Narayana does comedy in his own style and his parody on Shakthi, Magadheera, Simha etc. bring in some laughter. There are many actors in the film – Nazar, Sayaji Shinde, Supreet, Ajay, Shafi, Pragathi, Chandramohan, Tanikella Bharani, Dharmavarapu and others do justice to their roles.

Analysis:

Dookudu is a film that is different from any other films of Mahesh Babu. The fans expected a lot but director Sreenu Vytla planned something entirely different. Mahesh Babu plays an extremely soft character and this has not been received very well by his fans.

The director also reveals the entire plot in the first 10 minutes and therefore there is not much of a suspense factor later on. The film is like many other family drams that one has seen from Vytla. The fights are average. The picturization of the songs too is just average. The item song of Parvati Melton is the only song that ringed in some cheer for the fans. The background score too is average and so is the music.

Verdict: Dookudu has failed to reach the high expectations of the fans. The film is a soft family drama with an emotional touch – father son sentiment. The film  is a decent entertainer but not a blockbuster
