Mogudu' movie reviews

since the posters and first look of the film ‘Mogudu’ were unveiled, the entire focus has been on only one person. That is Taapsee, the leading lady. Thanks to her wild sex appeal and a naturally voluptuous oomph, many have gone crazy. However, the pretty girl shared a truth about all this.

Taapsee reportedly revealed that it was only in one sensuous song which goes ‘Kaavaali…kaavaali..’ that she has worn those netted saris. She added that it is about a wife’s heart and how she wants her husband to be. The wavy haired beauty reiterated that she wore only Pattu Saris, Salwars or Churidars in the rest of the film.

As for the posters, Taapsee maintained that it is the discretion of the producers as to which pictures come out. While she stated that the song was canned aesthetically, Taapsee reiterated that she is not a glamorous person in the movie in the film.

Big time disappointment! movie reviews

I went to see this movie with big time expectations. I had been waiting for this for quite some time. So I saw this first thing today (Saturday) morning, which, for me, is kind of first day first show. To be honest, I have to state very categorically that it is BIG TIME DISAPPOINTMENT. I didn’t want to tell the conclusion in the very beginning, but really don’t want to take any chances with people’s money i.e. if somebody, without reading the full review, goes for it then it is going to be a total waste. Believe me, these thoughts came to my mind even while watching the movie.
Starting with some good news. Movie starts very promisingly. Shahid kapoor lives in a village and is the son of a professor. He has a sister, who gets engaged (later married) to an NRI, in Gurudwara, without him (the groom) being physically present there; which is very common in Punjab. Sonam kapoor comes to her relative’s place for shelter due to the ongoing problem in Kashmir. Here, they fall in love. Movie moves with good pace and is filled with good amount of laughter and energy. And then, that is it. This is the whole story and it gets completed with in first 45 minutes.
Here onwards, movie doesn’t move even an inch. Believe me, for it is cent-percent true. Somehow, they move it to the intermission, where Sonan goes out of town to Mumbai and Shahid kapoor gets an offer letter from Indian Air Force. So I thought these sluggish movements have deliberately been put in by Pankaj Kapur as he would be having a lot to cover in the second half.
To everybody’s horror, second half is totally stationary. It opens up with Shahid and Sonan in Scottland, he in an Airforce exchange program and she comes to Scotland with her family to open up a Kashmiri emporium.
The things happen that happen then can’t be narrated and it seems even Mr Pankaj Kapur did not know what he wanted to show. To summarize the same in bullet points,
  • Sonam kapoor sees Shahid kapoor. She hides.

  • Shahid kapoor sees Sonam and follows her, but couldn’t locate her.

  • They both meet but no body talks. The conversation comes from the background.

  • She invites him home to ask for her hand.

  • Kargil war breaks out, on his way to her house and he leaves the country for good because of his patriotism

  • He comes to India and waits for some role to play in kargil war, in which the Airforce intervention was bare minimum.

  • Finally he has been asked to go to Adampur and destroy some of the bunkers.

  • He destroys bunker, there is nobody watching or attacking him, still his plane catches fire.Final Words: I respect Pankaj Kapur very much and had very high hopes from him. Long back, during my childhood, I saw his Mohanlal, BA LLb serial once and I found it very attractive. Actually to be honest, I loved that most because I heard few beautiful lines from him which, I used so many times in my life to impress others. These lines were “Mujehy koi bhi aisa nasha pasand nahi, jo samay k saath utar jaye.” I simply loved those lines and to my surprise, I heard them being used by Shahid in this movie as well.
This movie looks like as if some body is trying to launch or re-lauch Shahid kapoor. No doubt, he looks great, but then, handsome is what handsome does. And he, like is father and mother (Supria Pathak - who just weeps and weeps in the movie), doesn’t do anything in this movie.

  • Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge review

    Sonia Chopra

They’re fraands (apologies; but the bad spelling thingy is infectious), and nothing more. Both have a crush on a sexier other. So what to do?In fact, Vishal (Saqib) and Preity (Sada) start out as enemies, fighting noisily like imbeciles. He calls her Mogambi; she thinks he’s unfunny. Vishal in fact likes Preity’s friend Malvika, but is too intimidated to ask her out. Preity has a thing for hunky singer Rahul, who is Vishal’s friend.
To get closer to her, Vishal sends Malvika a Facebook friend request. But the problem is, he sends the request from Rahul’s account. Now Vishal, posing as his rock-star friend is chatting with Malvika on a daily basis. But is it really Malvika on the other side?
Ok, so if this film were an FB account, the status would be “it’s complicated”. For that’s what the love stories in the film are. We all know that our central couple is likely to end up together, so the ride has to be worth it. It is…at least half the time.
But one wishes the film had more to it than just the fake identity gag. Side characters like the sexist, creepy chamcha-friend is a cliché is most college films. As is the fat guy, who in this film, is made to strip down to his basics for laughs. Then there has to be the college professor. Thankfully, played by the restrained Mita Vashisht, the hip professor still knowingly smiles at the constantly-warring frenemies. This 'knowing smile' a Hindi film prototype is so out of character, it hurts. Most importantly, there is no sufficient explanation to why the characters have a change of heart.
Direct Nupur Ashtana debuts with a film that’s neither spectacular, nor a complete downer. Consistently superficial, the film is still a reasonably breezy watch owing to the earnest cast and sharp dialogue.
Saba Azad (she had a cameo in Love Kabaddi) is vivacious and a complete scene-stealer. Her performance is key in making the film watchable. Saqib Saleem as Vishal is charming, but is saddled with a clichéd and one-dimensional character sketch. We don’t quite understand this character till the end (is he a bully, funny-guy, what’s his background). Nishant Dahiya is very good as Rahul, and Tara D’Souza as Malvika is confident.
While one appreciates the normal-girl styling of Preity (jeans, shorts, tees, messy hair, haversacks), one wonders if it’s accurate to show other college kids walking around in heavy-duty make-up, barely-there clothes, and monster stilettos.
Again, it’s odd that a film that bases its entire premise on internet identities and juices the medium dry to take the story forward, ends up criticizing that very technology. One understands that it’s a message the film is trying to convey, but why get righteous about romance? I mean, do we need to hear a 21-year-old say that a smiley is not the same thing as looking into someone’s eyes? And do we really need for our protagonists to screech “Tum?!” whenever they spot each other in a public place. And do we have to have a finale that takes place on a stage with a live audience?
On the brighter side: the four characters and their mixed-up romance keeps us hooked for the most part. Other real characters like Preity’s super-cool single mom add to the fun. The heart-to-heart conversations between Preity and Malvika, and other real touches like the scramble to prepare for an upcoming fest are great. Music is a big plus.

Crazy Stupid Love - Movie Review

CastSteve Carell, Julianne Moore, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Analeigh Tipton, Jonah Bobo, Kevin Bacon
    DirectorsGlenn Ficarra, John Requa

Crazy Stupid Love is just that, a movie about how crazy and stupid love is, not in the abusive sense, but in the cuddly, fuzzy and condescending sense! The movie shows the weird things that people do for their love! Cal (Steve Carell) and his wife Emily (Julianne Moore) have the perfect life with their two kids. Cal's picture-perfect world comes crashing down on him, when he learns that Emily has been having an affair with her colleague David (Kevin Bacon), who shows all signs of being head over heels in love with Emily. Cal moves out of their house, falls into a habit of getting himself dead drunk at a local bar, and ends up whining and complaining about his wife cheating on him.
Enter Jacob (Ryan Gosling), a very smart and enterprising dude who is very popular with the ladies. He promises to help Cal, gives him a complete makeover, and with a little difficulty, Cal becomes the perfect ladies’ man too! Cal's son Robbie (Jonah Bobo) has a major crush on his babysitter Jessica (Analeigh Tipton) who is four years his senior, but Jessica has a secret crush of her own. Hannah (Emma Stone) is the one lady Jacob was unable to charm, as she refused his advances, claiming that she had a boyfriend.
Cal becomes a hit with the ladies, but Jacob wants to become a one-woman guy after sensing that Hannah is the special one for him. Do Emily and Cal get back together? Will Jacob and Hannah become a pair? What is the fate of Robbie's love? We have one huge joyride in the offing, as Crazy Stupid Love takes us on a journey of love, with Steve Carell's inimitable comic sense and ample doses of humour. Each and every member of the cast adds to the potency of the movie, and brings their unique touch to it. This is one movie that is sure to leave you feeling good at the end! The pace doesn't slacken one bit and the background score has been aptly tuned to the mood of the movie. If you're in the mood for some lighthearted fun, and have an affinity for love, head off to catch Crazy Stupid Love, at a theatre near you!
